ABOUT DIANA
Diana Gonzalez is a leader in the movement to reform the Brooklyn Democratic Party, the New York City Board of Elections, and the judicial selection process. A former Executive Director of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, she has seen up close the inner workings of the party machine. Diana knows firsthand just how much the party needs to change and how to get it done.

Diana first gained an understanding of power and politics as a teenager, observing her school system's treatment of her younger sister, Carol, who has been intellectually and physically disabled since birth. Every year, Carol's class moved to a different school because no school wanted her class in the building. Every year, her parents were unable to get all the services Carol needed included in her IEP. Meanwhile, Diana was showered with more opportunities than she could possibly use. It was all too clear to Diana that the school district's leadership had decided that students like Diana mattered and students like Carol didn't. Diana didn't agree, and she's been fighting against unfairness ever since.
Much like Diana's school district growing up, the leadership of the Brooklyn Democratic Party thinks a few people matter and everyone else doesn't. They prioritize cronyism and nepotism over fairness and equity.

Diana is the Chair of the Land Use and Landmarks Committee of Community Board 7. She is also the President Emeritus of the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats, the pro-reform, progressive Democratic political organization of the 44th Assembly district. In addition, she is the Corresponding Secretary of the 44th Assembly District Democratic Committee. Diana previously served on the Board of Directors of Dare to Run, a nonprofit organization that trains women to run for office.

Diana has worked on political campaigns for over a decade, first as a staffer, now as a consultant. She also worked as a bartender for seven years. She owns a political consulting firm, Blue Tiger Strategies, which helps Democratic candidates and advocacy campaigns. She lives in Windsor Terrace with her husband, Dietrich Knauth, who is a reporter at Thompson Reuters.
